Isaiah 65

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH CHAPTER 65

Gentiles had not sought after God but now they are seeking him.  They hadn’t bothered to ask but now they want the only God and God says here I am.  Twenty-four seven God had called Israel but they just ignored him.  They insulted God to his face with idols.  They even tried night séances in the grave yard.  Their witches brew religion infuriated God.  They violated the Ten Commandments and now God was going to make them pay for it─this punishment would continue unto the 3rd generation.  God leaves a seed (remnant), God promises the elect lush fields for their flocks in Sharon, and their cattle in the valley of Achor.  Those who had forsaken the LORD were destined for the sword and the legacy they leave would be cursed words.  But the true servants would eat and drink well.  The former hardships would be forgotten and their troubles would be over.  They were coming back to Jerusalem with shouting and joy.  Their “heaven on earth” had arrived.  Long life expectancy was promised to the remnant.  They will build, plant, harvest and enjoy life.  Wolves and lambs will live together.

EXPOSITION TO ISAIAH CHAPTER 65

1I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.

The Gentiles had not sought after God but now they have access to him by faith and God responded by saying, “here I am.”

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT DEMONSTRATE THE TEXT:

Isa 11:10  And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Isa 55:5  Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

Rom 9:24-26  Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?  As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.  And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

2I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;

Twenty-four seven God had spread his hands unto Israel but they had been rebellious.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT AUTHENTICATE THE TEXT:

Deu 31:27  For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

Eze 2:3  And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.

3A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;

They had insulted God to his face worshiping idols and burning incense.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES THAT

ESTABLISH THE CERTAINTY OF THE TEXT:

Deu 32:16-19  They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.  They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.  Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.  And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.

 4Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

This was a witch’s brew religion─they camped at night among the dead and claim to get messages from them.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES THAT

PRESENT OVERWHELMING PROOF OF THE TEXT:

Mat 8:28  And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

Isa 66:17  They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.

5Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

This religion infuriated God─They were too sacred to be touched─they irritated God like smoke from a smoldering fire.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT ARE CONCLUSIVE AND FINAL:

Mat 9:11  And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

Luk 18:9-13  And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:  Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.  I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.  And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

6Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,

The list of their sins was written out before him and God was not going to tolerate it any longer.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT RATIFY THE TEXT:

Exo 17:14  And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

Jer 16:18  And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.

7Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.

God says it is written in Ex. 20:5 and that they are going to pay for their crimes─they had scorned and insulted God,on the hill tops and mountains.  God is going to measure out the punishment not only on the fathers but on the children unto the 3rd and 4th.generation.  It was the 4th generation that returned.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT BEAR OUT THE TEXT:

Exo 20:5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Eze 20:27-28  Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.  For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.

8Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

God says that he is not going to make a full end of Israel─he will end up with a remnant.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT SPEAK VOLUMES ABOUT THE TEXT:

Amo 9:8-9  Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.  For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.  Read:  Jer 30:11

9And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.

God says Jacob will yield some heirs and Judah will become an inheritor of Zion─God says the elect will inherit these promises.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT SHED LIGHT ON THE TEXT:

Isa 11:11-12  And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.  And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

10And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.

I will give you the lush fields of Sharon in the west for your flocks and the valley of Achor in the east for your cattle.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT VERIFY THE TEXT:

Eze 34:13-14  And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.  I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.

11But ye are they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering unto that number.

But the rest of you who forsake me─that have forgot my holy mountain, look out─I am about to consign you to the sword.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT GIVE COUNTEREVIDENCE TO THE TEXT:

1Ch 28:9  And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

Isa 11:9  They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

12Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.

Their destiny was the sword─you will bend your neck to the chopping block, because I called you and you wouldn’t listen─you deliberately sinned─you knew that I didn’t like what you were doing but you did it anyway.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT CONFIRM THE TEXT:

Isa 3:25  Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

Eze 14:17-21  Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:  Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.  Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:  Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.  For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments

13Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:

My servants will have a banquet but you will not get invited.  My servants will drink but you will have a parched tongue.  My servants will throw a party and have a good time but you will be ashamed.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT CARRY WEIGHT REGARDING THE TEXT:

Psa 34:10  The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Mal 3:18  Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

Luk 14:23  And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.  For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

14Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

While my servants are singing and having a good time, you will be crushed and broken hearted.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT MAKE THE CASE:

Isa 52:9  Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.

15And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:

The legacy they leave will be that God slew them and their name became a curse word.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT INDORSE THE TEXT:

Isa 62:2  And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

Act 11:26  And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

16That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

If you pray for a blessing then you will use the name of the God of Truth.  If you take an oath then you will invoke the name of the God of Truth.  All of your former troubles and hardships are over and forgotten and hid from my eyes.  Don’t live with your life hitched to the hitching post of the past.  Forget the things that are behind you and live the new life in Christ.  Don’t live on the fringe edge of doom.  Don’t live yesterday’s woes today─don’t cheat yourself.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT LEND EVIDENCE TO THE TEXT:

Jer 4:2  And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

Isa 48:1  Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

Deu 6:13  Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

17For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

So wonderful will be the new Jerusalem─when you get home from Babylon’s hell-hole, this place will be a new heaven and a new earth.  Your moaning and groaning is over─joy and gladness has arrived like spring time.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT DEMONSTRATE THE TEXT:

Isa 66:22  For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

2Pe 3:13  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

18But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

Look! Jerusalem is a place of happiness─you have joy, joy, joy deep down in your heart.  The earlier troubles are gone─chaos, pain and persecution is over with.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT AUTHENTICATE THE TEXT:

Isa 44:23  Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

Zep 3:14  Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

19And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

God says that he is rejoicing in Jerusalem─why shouldn’t you? Look ahead─focus on the future─anticipate the time to come─live with a foretaste of things divine.  Weeping and cries of anguish like those recorded in lamentation are all over─your “heaven and earth” has arrived.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT ESTABLISH THE CERTAINTY OF THE TEXT:

Isa 35:10  And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Isa 51:11  Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

20There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

Child mortality in Babylon was the norm.  Child sacrifice was like abortion in our day.  God tells Israel “no more thence an infant of days.”  They won’t have their infants snatched out from under them while in the crib like former time.  Old men and women will enjoy a full lifetime.  Many are enjoying their 100th birthdays.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES THAT

PRESENT OVERWHELMING PROOF OF THE TEXT:

Deu 4:40  Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.

Job 5:26  Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

21And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

They built their mega homes and live in them.  They planted and raised their crop and vineyards without fear of invading armies.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT ARE CONCLUSIVE AND FINAL:

Isa 62:8-9  The LORD hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:  But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.   Read: Deu 28:30-33

22They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

They will plant and enjoy their produce.  My people will be tough as an oak, and live like trees, and enjoy the work of their hands.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT RATIFY THE TEXT:

Deu 28:30  Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.

23They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

Their children and grand children will be blessed unto 10 generations.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT BEAR OUT THE TEXT:

Lev 26:3-10  If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;  Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.  And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.  And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.  And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.  And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.  For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.   And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

24And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

While you are thinking about your needs─before you pray, God is preparing your answer.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT SPEAK VOLUMES ABOUT THE TEXT:

Psa 91:15  He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

Dan 10:12  Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

In those days wolf and lamb, lion and bullock, will dwell together.  Daniel has a lion with eagle’s wings and a leopard with a fowl’s wings and four heads in Dan. 7, which represented the kingdom of Persia and Greece.  When kingdoms stopped acting like animals and laid down their arms and become peaceful with their neighbors it could be said that the wolf was laying down with the lamb.  When Israel returned from captivity wolf and lamb, lion and bullock are dwelling together.  In the scriptures a lion with four wings represented Babylon and it receives a heart transplant (heart of a man) and becomes human.  Persia is represented under the image of a bear with three ribs in its mouth.  (She had eaten up Lydia, Babylon and Egypt), Greece was represented as a leopard with four wings of a fowl.  Isa. 14:29 “Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.”  Ahaz is dead but out of this serpent’s root (Ahaz), a snake will come (Hezekiah) and from his roots will come a fiery flying serpent (Manasseh).  Even though the rod is broken his son will be a worse scourge than his father and out of him will come a fiery flying serpent.  This King of Israel (Manasseh) was represented as a flying fiery serpent, (he was always flying off the handle and had a hot temper)  Israel was represented as sheep.  Jesus was represented as a Lion and a lamb.  Herod was the fox and false teachers were represented as wolves.  Babylon was represented as a dragon or a serpent.  Ethiopia was represented as flies.  Egypt was represented as the crocodile of the Nile.  Syria was represented as bees and hornets.  Jacob was represented as a worm. In Jer. 50:17 the king of Assyria is called a lion and the king of Babylon is also called a Lion.  In Isa 56:11 Israel’s shepherds are called greedy dogs.   Finally, let me point out to you that we name our ball clubs hornets, dolphins, wolves, bears and beavers.  In conclusion, it was no strange thing that wolves and lambs were eating together, (a peace pact was made between nations) lions were eating with oxen.. Snakes were eating dust and not biting their children.  After careful examination of the scriptures you will arrive at this conclusion:  Israel has returned from captivity and Persia rules the world and all the nations were under this one world government and so the wolf was dwelling with the lamb and the leopard was lying down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together and dust is the serpent’s meat.  In todays language; we might say of two ball clubs that the Jaguars were having dinner with the rams.  Peace had finally arrived and Israel (Lamb) was lying down with Persia (bear).  See Daniel chapter 7.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT SHED LIGHT ON THE TEXT:

Isa 11:6-10  The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.  And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.  And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.  They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.   And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Rev 14:1  And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.
