INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH CHAPTER 29

Ariel is about to experience a blood bath.  They will be encircled with an army from Assyria—the enemy will build forts and blockade the city.  It will be a swarm of invaders that encamp Jerusalem but they will be scattered like chaff.  Their voice will be like a ghost of the past and they will lie buried in the ground.  All of the above will happen suddenly.  Assyria will come with an appetite for war and will vanish like a dream.  When this happens it will befuddle your wits—you will be bamboozled and amazed.  Read 2 Kings 32 where all these events happened.  But Israel’s eyes were closed and their ears were muffled—the events that were to happen were like a sealed book to them.  When God brings the events to fruition they will be astonished and amazed.  God will turn Lebanon into a fruitful forest again.  The blind will see God’s plans—the humbled and poor rejoice—the tyrant (Sennacherib) will vanish—scoffers cease—evil doers will be killed.  All the above and more are waiting for your understanding in the commentary section.

CROSS REFERENCE SCRIPTURES

THAT ILLUMINATE THE TEXT:

Isa 10:12-16  Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.  For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:  And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.  Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.  Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.  Read:  Eze 24:1-7,21

3And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.

They will be encircled with an armed camp, a ring of outposts and siege works and a blockade.  The enemy will build forts around the city to destroy it.

11And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
